Instructions and Calibration

1. Insert the mesh into the Newman Roller Frame as normal.  If needed, use the reverse curve that you would normally - appropriate for the tension level and frame model. The amount of reverse curve would be guided by the selection of mesh tension listed under the column "Stable Tension before 1st Print Run" on the "Constant Force" Retensioning chart.
Example:
A 23" X 31" OD M3/M3A frame does not require reverse curve up to 85 Newtons.

2. Provide sufficient corner softening at each roller end so that the Newman Roller Master™ can take the mesh (the tension) "straight up" to your initial tension.
Refer to the "Constant Force" Retensioning Chart above for your chosen mesh count and brand.

Example A:
N205 Newman Roller Mesh
® -23"X31" OD M3/M3A frame - initial tension of 50 Newtons/cm = ½" pre-softening at each roller end.
Example B:
N205 Newman Roller Mesh® -23"X31" OD M3/M3A frame - initial tension of 80 Newtons/cm (max.) = 1¾" pre-softening at each roller end.
Example C:
355 Low Elongation Mesh® - 23"X31" OD M3/M3A frame - initial tension of 36 Newtons/cm =  ¾" – 1" pre-softening at each roller end.

Corner Softening
NOTE:
The goal is to soften the corners at each roller end as equal to one another as possible but it does not need to be exact.

3. Draw a line at each end of each roller (8 lines total) on the inside edge of the roller's locking slot. As the mesh is pre-softened in the four corners, the amount of mesh released can then be measured (as shown above and in detail in the Stretch Devices Quick Stretch Instruction book)

4. Then, on the Newman Roller Master, take the mesh (the tension) "straight up" to your desired tension by engaging both air switches simultaneously.  Your intent is to take the tension up quickly within your own comfort level. Your comfort with this stretching method will increase each time it is done. NOTE: It is perfectly fine if you need to take another "bite" of the wrench on the hex (endplug) of the roller.  Snug the bolt next to the wrench, turn the air off usually for that roller only, and reposition the wrench. If need be, turn both air switches off to reposition the wrench.  Loosen the bolt and turn the air back on.

5. Hold the tension by leaving the air pressure engaged for approximately 3 minutes (or longer if convenient).

6. Then lock the bolts on each end of the frame.

7. Your tensioning is now complete. You can immediately degrease the screen.
